I make sure to write them down and send the clients a copy. Then I go see if any of the keywords the clients like have any searches at all. Finally, I see what similar keywords are really searched for and present the results to the client as a jumping-off place. The clients are shocked, thrilled and even stunned by seeing that their mindset for many years is exactly what got them no hits.
